Adventure Training

Adventure Training is an exciting part of any squadron's training programme and 261 is no different, we are away on training exercises or at competitions roughly once a month, and then there are weekends organised by the Surrey Wing Adventure Training Team too!

Squadron parade evenings are often used to train towards competitions, some example of Adventure Training activities are mentioned below:

  • Fieldcraft - the art of living and moving in the field; this will include teaching about tents, cooking, hygiene, movement, and much more

  • Map and Compass Work

  • Bridge Crossing techniques

  • Radio Communications

The cadet's skills in these areas are tested through planned exercises, these exercises often have complex scenarios and test a wide range of knowledge.  Adventure Training exercises are often used by squadrons as a method of assessing cadets' leadership qualities - what would happen, for instance if the 1 and 2i/cs (first and second in commands) of your team went down? Would you take control? Do you have the skills and abilities?
